Styling Bonsai Trees – Progression of styling one of our Japanese Elm Bonsai Trees.

Styling Bonsai Trees – Progression of styling one of our Japanese Elm Bonsai Trees.

When Styling bonsai trees work on all aspects of your tree.  Trunk shape proper taper developing a thick trunk base.   Shaping the branches and trimming the new growth so that it ramifies properly.

First I trimmed back the shoots of new growth.  I let them grow out a little longer so that when I trimmed them back to 2-3 sets of leaves the growth  would be hardwood and ramify properly.  Once the foliage was cleaned up so that the canopy would grow in properly we began wiring the main branches.

Finally at the trunk base we finished  styling bonsai tree by removing the unsightly stump with our concave cutters.  This created a better looking trunk line and impressive base and Nebari beginning to develop.

Step by step styling on this beautiful Japanese Elm Bonsai.  This is 3 months later after wire is removed and Bonsai is established.
